Funko-Pop! collectibles are one of the most recent collectible phenomena. These vinyl figures have followed in the footsteps of the Beanie Babies of the world and become the hottest collectible toy on the market today. The Funko-Pop! brand has been at work since the late nineties, and have added a laundry list of figurines to their collection.
Funko-Pop! has deals with several pop-culture brands, including Marvel, the NFL, DC Comics, HBO, Disney, and much more. There are thousands of Pops available, and they cover almost any imaginable character. If you’d like a small vinyl toy of your favorite movie, TV, or comic book character with a large head and small body, the chances are there’s a Pop you can buy.
As Funko-Pop! toys become more popular in the collectable space, rare items are released and coveted. Just like any other collector’s item like American Girl Dolls and trading cards, some limited releases sell for far more than the price the buyer paid. In fact, if you look online, some of the prices of these figurines may astonish you.
Below we’ve listed 7 of the most expensive Funk-Pop! collectibles on the market. If you happen to have one, congratulations! If you’re looking to buy your own, make sure you have deep pockets.
1. Alex DeLarge
Don’t get too excited; this isn’t the Pop you just bought for $7.00 off the shelf. Before the recent release, there was an original version of the Alex DeLarge Pop that can now net the seller tens of thousands of dollars. There was only ever 24 of these Pops released to the public due to a licensing issue, which means the original copies are some of the rarest Pops out there.
It’s unlikely that you’ll ever find one of these Pops on the market since there are so few of them. They sell now and then, but the buyers have been known to ask for a price in the ballpark of $20,000. With such a large sum, it’s also hard to trust that a seller is authentic. Either way, if you’re one of the 24 people in the world with this Pop, congratulations.
2. Freddy Boba Fett (Red Hair)
The Freddy Boba Fett Pop is one of the most desired Funko-Pop! on the market. The original release took place in 2014 as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, and people who purchased their figurine were treated to a spectacular pay-day if they decided to sell.
Before you get too excited, these prices are for the red haired version of the Boba Fett. Another version was released, and while this release can still net you hundreds of dollars, it’s a far cry from the thousands the red haired version brings. The estimated value of the Pop is over $3,000, but expect to pay more. You’ll likely find these being sold on eBay for closer to $4,000 if you’re lucky. One sold for $6,000 in 2016.
3. Freddy Metallic Count Chocula
Count Chocula is rarer than Boba Fett, but the demand doesn’t seem to be as high. There are 24 Boba Fett Pops in the world and only 12 of Count Chocula. The Count Chocula Pop was released as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive back in 2011, and those who are looking to add it to their collection will have to pay up. The Count Chocula Pop is valued just over $2,000, but you’d be lucky to find one that cheap. Recent sales indicate that you’d be paying closer to $4,000 than $3,000.
4. Freddy Glow in the Dark Beetlejuice
The Glow in the Dar Beetlejuice is another San Diego Comic Con exclusive that will break the bank for collectors who want to buy it. The limited release only included twelve copies, and people tend to hold on to them pretty tightly. They are valued for around the same price as the Count Chocula above (around 2,100), but these sell much closer to their valuation. If you’re lucky, you could snag one of these for under $1,000, though most of them will cost you around $2,500.
5. Disney Clown Dumbo
The Clown Dumbo Pop was released as part of the 2013 San Diego Comic Con exclusive pack. There were three Dumbo Pops issued for this event, and the original isn’t especially valuable. The other two, however, only included 48 units. One of these is the clown variant.
The Clown Dumbo Pop! isn’t as limited as some of the others higher on the list, but Disney carries a particular fan base who is willing to spend. 48 in the world is still a tiny number, and if you’re dying to get your hands on one of these, it’s going to cost you over $2,000. Some are on the market for as much as $5,000 – though there’s no reason to pay this much.
6. Holographic Darth Maul
This glow in the dark Darth Maul Pop is one of the most sought-after Pops available. The demand for this item is especially noticeable because of the amount that was made. Unlike the Pops listed above on this list that only had double-digit items released, the Holographic Darth Maul has 480 on the market. That doesn’t mean that you’ll be paying much less for it, though. This one is still valued at almost $2,000. If you want to buy one for yourself, expect to pay this much.
7. Flocked Chewbacca
The Flocked Chewbacca Pop is another San Diego Comic Con exclusive that will get the seller a large sum of cash. Like the Darth Maul Pop listed above, there are 480 of these in the world. That may seem like a lot compared to some of the others, but there are far more than 480 Star Wars fans in the world. This item is valued just over $1,000, and if you’re lucky, you may be able to find it cheaper. That said, some of the more expensive sales can run you upwards of $2,000.
Maybe someday you’ll be able to purchase all of these Funko-Pop! collectables, but you’ll have to start saving now!
